The Son is Shining.
We have been asked by Peace Country Pioneer camps (who typically only do horse camps for highschoolers) to lead a backpacking trip this summer and this is where we have decided to go. Kakwa/Babet Lake in B.C. Canada. We are pretty excited.
My skin is starting to change color, that is a good sign of the impending sunshine.
Yesterday, for Easter, we were invited by a family in our church to go quadding to the river and have a smokey roast. We were at the river all afternoon and visited late into the evening and I found my heart saying, "This was good"
It is so refreshing to be here and truly feel like its HOME. Not just that I am comfortable in our house, or town and with people. But that they have made ME part of THEIR home. A very dear woman came up to me in church yesterday and said "Joyelle, I really hope you feel at home here, because we just love you."
It made my heart soft.
Some Ramblings-
that some people are clearly called by the LORD to go certain places, and others seem to have no big revelations in their lives, but they love and serve the LORD faithfully in their every day mundane activities. So here is my question: Is one greater than another? Are we to desire greater callings in life as we are to desire the greater gifts? (1 Corinthians 12) Lets just go there for a moment:
(vs. 4)
"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differant kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but
the same God works all of them in all men.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.....(vs.11) All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them
to each one, just as HE determines.
The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized
by one Spirit into the body-whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free- and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say " Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that
reason cease to be a part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I dont not belong to the body" it would not for that reason cease
to be a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? BUT EAGERLY DESIRE THE GREATER GIFTS."
It seems so clear that Paul is saying we cannot all be Charles Spurgeon, that we will not all be Billy Graham - but that all the parts make up the whole. However I still cannot get around the thought that there is something Im just missing. Like, if I GOT it, my life would look like those who have joined the great cloud of witnesses in faith and perseverance.
Love it... thanks for your call... it was lovely!
ReplyDeleteMy dear Joyelle,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this post. I'm thrilled for you and Rocky to get to lead a backpacking trip this summer. Awesome. God is using what you love and what He's placed in your heart to glorify His name- and to declare His excellencies.
Also, Charles Spurgeon, David Brainard, Gladys Alward, etc.. didn't know they were charles spurgeon, Brainard, or gladys alwayd when they were in the midst of just living their lives- they were just being obedient and faithful.
May we press ever onward. Love you dear sister.
Good point, Nj Cleveland! Those who are giants to us now surely knew themselves what weak creatures they were... Interesting... There is not a single subject that has tripped me up more in my life with Jesus than what you wrote about. I am 28 years old, single, living in SC(??) in grad school for something I don't want to do, and just living contentedly on His faithfulness day by day. His joy swells my heart when I am not thinking about what I should be "doing" for Him, but as soon as I start comparing myself to others, I am knocked down and taken completely out of the equation. Thank you so much for posting this, my faithful friend. You are blooming where He's planted you, and this makes my heart glad!
